2010 Daegu Gyeoungbuk Institute of Science & Technology Faculty Positions

Daegu Gyeoungbuk Institute of Science & Technology (DGIST) located in Daegu, Korea, around 1.5 hours ride from Seoul by Express Train is a government funded research intensive institution. The Institute will offer programs at Doctorate, Masters, Bachelor’s degrees in the field of science and engineering. It will open the graduate program first in March, 2011 and then undergraduate school in 2012, accommodating total of 1200 students; 800 undergraduate and 400 graduate students by 2015. The Institute vision is to get international visibility and recognition as one of the top ranking universities in the Asia-Pacific region. To this end it will concentrate its initial resources on education and research in such selective specified fields as Robotics Engineering, Brain Science, Information and Communication Engineering, Energy Systems Engineering and Design Science.

The DGIST is seeking outstanding candidates for faculty positions at all ranks. The applicants should have demonstrated potential for teaching and for establishing vigorous research program. The applicants must also have open-minded interpersonal skills for working together in cooperative manner with their colleagues within the department in carrying out teaching and research. A strong record of research and publication in one of the following focused fields is desirable:

Department of Robotics Engineering
● Bio-Robots (Micro/Nano): Micro/nano-based inspection, diagnosis and treatment of
human brain and human biological system
● Surgery/Rehabilitation Robots: Medical treatment and surgery of human brain and
body in injury, disorder and disability
● Brain-Machine Interaction (BMI): BMI technology to augment or repair human cognitive
function / sensory motor function
Successful candidates are expected to have strong background in robot mechanism design, sensors/signal processing, actuators/controls, MEMS fabrication, biomedical imaging/optics or biomedical systems engineering.

Department of Brain Science

Department of Energy Systems Engineering

● Rechargeable Batteries
Successful candidates are expected to have strong background in electrochemistry, polymer materials, organic/inorganic electrical materials, or related studies.

Department of Information and Communication Engineering
● Embedded Systems: real-time operating systems, software engineering, processor architecture and data networks applicable for brain, robot and energy systems
● Medical Imaging and Systems: image processing, medical sensors, database technology for large medical data and processor architecture for medical applications
● Bio-Nano Device and Systems: nano sensors and devices applicable for brain, robot and biosystems
● Intelligent Communication and Control Systems: networks, wireless communication, modeling, simulation and control applicable for green energy systems, particularly for distributed complex systems.

Salary, incentives and rank will be commensurate with qualifications.
